Saying goodbye to my special friend
Over the weekend the Pawfect Pack has to sadly say goodbye to one of our close friends, Kodi. He was one of the founding members of the Pawfect Pack and we are reeling from the loss.
Kodi was a big, beautiful Weimeraner. He was actually bigger than show standards but we thought he was just pawfect and so very, very handsome. When he was young he was quiet a handful and had a serious aversion for motorbike indicators… they simply had to die!
Later he became the Principle at his mom, Belinda’s, Puppy School. With a glance he kept all those little rambunctious puppies in line. When Kas (the Clown) arrived in the Bolte household it took a while for things to settle. Kodi would simply give his mom the odd glance that said “When does this one go home” but accepted his new brother in his stride. Later, when Olivia arrived in my household, Kodi and I had many conversations about coping with a new addition to the family. He gave me such sound advise on how to handle high-energy siblings!
Kodi used to tell me of days gone by when he felt like he could run forever. In recent months the more sedate walks with mom have been the highlight of his day. Beach walks and catching crab were always his favourite outing.
He was a special “Mama’s Boy” and loved all the adventures he had.
Some humans feel the loss of their fur children really deeply. Other humans may not always understand this. So let me explain it. For a dog like Kodi our humans are our world. When they walk through the door it’s like Christmas morning… every time (no matter how long you have been gone). We know our human’s habits and could most probably tell you about their bowl movements, what shampoo they use and what they are feeling. We watch and observe them all the time. We love morning snuggles and coffee dates and simply want to be close to them. We see when they are happy and when they are sad. We know which shoes mean we are going for a walk and when its time to settle down and watch your favourite TV show. We are part of the family and so when the day comes and it is time to say good-bye, our humans miss us more than words can explain and the hole we leave behind is massive.
So go easy on those human’s who fur children mean the world to them. They have not just lost “a dog”. They have said goodbye to one of their closest friends, guardian and companion.
Kodi, your paw prints remain forever printed on our hearts.
